Club Event, Saturday 4 August 2018

The roadworks bug bit yet again for the latest of our club events at Maidenhead Thicket. Given that there were temporary traffic lights in both directions at Burchetts Green roundabout, riders recorded relatively good times. Which left them wondering what they would have clocked had there been no road works! The full result is as follows:

Club Event Saturday 31st October 2015

Club Event, Saturday 5 September 2015

Thankfully the early morning drizzle abated for the start of the Club’s last time trial of the season at Maidenhead Thicket. Once again temporary traffic lights appeared on the course which made the result a bit of a lottery. A meagre three riders faced the timekeeper with the results below...

Club Event, Saturday 1 August 2015

A deceptively chilly morning (at least for August) greeted the riders in the latest Club event on the Maidenhead Thicket course. A combination of injury and holidays meant that only two Road Club members were present in the field of five. Peter Cockbain finished in a time of 28.10 while John Payne, whose chain apparently lost its affinity with the chainwheel recorded 27.54 after a derailment on the course. The result was as follows:

Club Event Saturday 4 July 2015

A humid warm morning complimented by a strong south westerly wind faced the riders in the latest morning club event at Maidenhead Thicket. Although there were moans at the finish about the difficult first half to the turn this appears to have been compensated by a very rapid return resulting in Personal Best times for John Payne and Bob Hewett in 26:25 and 27:56 respectively. Harjinder Obhi was our fastest rider with 24:42 while Peter Cockbain suffering from bruised ribs after an altercation with the family washing machine clocked 28:47. The full result is as follows:

Club Event, Saturday 6 June 2015

An early reconnaissance of the Maidenhead Thicket course for the latest club event revealed that a small part of the road was subject to traffic light control. The consensus of the  riders was that we should run the event on the principle that any race was better than no race. In the event, the obstruction appeared to have little bearing on the race although the strong SW wind probably did. John Payne was first back to the timekeeper having caught and passed his wife to record a personal best. Joy, it transpired, had suffered a cycle computer hardware malfunction and had stopped several times to fix it. The full result is as follows:

Club Hill Climb, 1 November 2014

Luckily the early morning rain cleared in time for the start of the last club event of the year, although in parts the hill was a little slippery with wet leaves. John Payne was the fastest South Bucks Road Club rider, closely followed by new member David Mills.

Club event 6th September 2014

A rather benign morning with little wind enabled some fast times to be recorded in the last of the club's morning events on the Bath Road at Maidenhead Thicket. Joy, with a time of 25:39 was within a whisker of a personal best, blaming a tardy truck for her just missing out. John meanwhile, finishes with 27:49. Ken Powell who is riding the Duo Normand later in the month thought that it was about time that he practiced a little 2-up riding as this is the discipline in the event. Steve Kish was his excellent tutor and the pair finishes in 26:15. Many thanks to Peter and Michelle, Martin and Robert who came out to help whilst our two stalwart helpers, Tony and Anona, were in France. Results:

Club Event, Saturday 5 April 2014

The first of the season’s club events was held under, for the time of the year, fairly good conditions. It was dry, there was some wind and the sun put in an occasional appearance. As is normal for the first event there was keenness about and a record number of sixteen riders took part. Perusal of the annals showed that this was the best attendance since the Club organised an event in conjunction with the CTC Birthday Rides which the South Bucks organised in 1998. The result of Saturday’s event on course H10/2 was as follows:

Club Event, Saturday 2 November 2013

The recent storm made an impact on Wash Hill (HHC026), as was evident from the freshly cut tree trunks by the side of the road, at the ramp section just before the hill flattens out to the finish. Thankfully, the weather was fairly mild, dry, overcast, but not dull. (Later in the afternoon, the sun made a welcome appearance). Sunshine glowing through golden autumn leaves and Beech trees turning copper - yes, that's our South Bucks! Here are the results:

Club Event, Saturday 7 September 2013

The light rain which was falling as I rode out to the event this morning did not augur too well for the last club event of the year on the Maidenhead Thicket course.  However the clouds cleared, the rain stopped and a light breeze prevailed.  With most of the club's potential riders away on holiday it was down to visitors to show us the potential of the course which they did in no uncertain manner as the following results show.

A great ride by Wouter Sybrandy, who graced us with his presence presumably while tuning up for the Tour of Britain.  We at SBRC wish him the best of luck for that event which starts this Sunday.

The cumulative points for SBRC riders stays the same, with all to play for in the Hill Climb on 2nd November.

Club event, Saturday 3 August 2013

After a period of very high temperatures and correspondingly high humidity it was a relief for the morning to dawn bright with normal temperatures although very breezy. As can be seen from the results the struggle out to the Twyford turn was compensated by a very rapid return to the timekeeper as the results show. Harj will return to the UK from the USA next week, and on the same day as our event, he was taking part in the Marin Century (couple of snaps from him below).

Club Event, 6 July 2013

With apologies for my delay in posting this, here are the results of last weekend's event.  On probably the fastest day of the year so far (sunny n warm with little breeze), it was ironic that road works and traffic lights had been erected on the course at Knowl Hill, just before we started.  Nevertheless some good times were recorded.

While we're all enjoying the Tour de France coverage, here are some further images from the extremely tough time trial that was Stage 6 of this year's Tour of California (see also my post some weeks ago).

First up, Tyler Farrraarrraarr! (as the Italian commentators call him):

Now a video of Juan Antonio Flecha chasing down Paul Voss, I think:

Cameron Meyer:

Andy Schleck. Really irritated by this one because I had a great shot of him face on, but a car drove between us at that moment (so I also have a great shot of a car 5 ft away!)

A BMC rider, I think it's Schaer or possibly Bookwalter.
I hope you enjoyed these images.  See you back in ol' blighty in "the fall".  Harj

While out riding in N. California, if you have to answer the call of nature, then exercise EXTREME care! Poison Oak grows weed-like all over the place here in abundance. It likes shady spots, just the kind of place where a roadie may choose to take a tinkle... Here's a piccy of what it looks like. Three leaves that look a bit like oak leaves, it grows in a viney and bush like manner:
Bare skin brushing it will get a rash at best, and in extreme cases, blistering and an allergic reaction. Nasty! Makes stinging nettles look like salad.

A view over the S. Bay area below (that's my bike, a Specialized Allez cheepo alloy job).
