Hill Climb News

After consultation with the rest of the club's officials we have decided to cancel Saturday's hill climb event.  The road surface on Wash Hill is generally bad and in places very broken and dangerous. This coupled with the forecast rain over the next couple of days means that the leaves are likely to be very slippery. Therefore, the event has been cancelled on safety grounds.

Club Event, Saturday 7 September 2019

With conditions which appeared to be conducive to time trialling, it was disappointing that officials outnumbered riders by a ratio of 5 to 1 for this morning's event. Michelle was the only rider finishing:

Club Event, Saturday 3 August 2019

Another dry morning with little wind at the start. However once on the A4 it was apparent that a strong south east wind helped riders to the turn. The return however was another matter. Again Michelle was the only Road Club rider finishing with 25:47 which means she has an unassailable lead in the Club points trophy race. The full result is as follows:

With the usual timekeeper away enjoying a very wet holiday in Scotland, Anona was persuaded to hold the watch for the latest of the Club's events at Maidenhead Thicket. In spite of a warm docile morning only three riders faced the timekeeper. Michelle was the only SBRC rider, finishing in 25:31. The full result is as follows:

Club Event, Saturday 1 June 2019

The first day of official summer lived up to its name by providing very warm weather with, at least at the start, very little wind. The riders at the start were lulled into a false sense of here was a perfect day only to find that once on the A4 there was in fact a moderate wind which hindered them to the turn. Richard Willcox of the Bath RC was the fastest in 25.27 closely followed by Michelle Ayres with 25.59. Making a return to time trialling was John Hoskins of the Westerley RC who was taking time out from his committee duties on the CTT and VTTA. The full result is as follows:

Club Event, Saturday 4 May 2019

Probably because of the threat of traffic lights on the Maidenhead Thicket H10/2, there was only a meagre turnout for the latest of the Club’s events on the course. Dry but windy conditions faced the three riders as the traffic lights had been removed for the holiday weekend. The fastest rider was Russ Danckert from the Army CU in a time of 21.52. Club Event, Saturday 6 April 2019

The first of this season’s club event was run in dreary cloudy conditions with a nagging cold easterly wind. Despite this all the times were very respectable with Tristan Davenne of the Newbury Road Club the fastest rider in 22.37. Michelle Ayres proved fastest of the Club's riders in 26.56 closely followed by Joy Payne with 27.12. Ironically, the clouds parted briefly after the event and the temperature shot up at least 2 degrees. The full result is as follows:

Club Event, Saturday 3 November 2018

Wash Hill at Wooburn Green was once again the venue for the Club’s hill climb, the traditional season closer. On a dry, seasonable warm morning, only two members were brave enough to tackle the anti-gravity event. A minor panic by the finish timekeeper when, due to his unnatural strength, his rear wheel pulled over while ascending the hill, luckily failed to affect the result as he wasn’t caught by the first rider. Club Event, Saturday 1 September 2018

As 1st September is the start of the meteorological autumn, it was not surprising that the day dawned bright but a little chilly. Once again traffic lights appeared on the course for the third time this season, which impeded the riders to varying degrees. With holidays still in vogue Harj was the only Road Club rider (he was really quite thankful for the short rest while the traffic lights were on red!) The full result is as follows:

The roadworks bug bit yet again for the latest of our club events at Maidenhead Thicket. Given that there were temporary traffic lights in both directions at Burchetts Green roundabout, riders recorded relatively good times. Which left them wondering what they would have clocked had there been no road works! The full result is as follows:

Club Event, Saturday 7 July 2018

With the latest heat wave well under way the club event held at Maidenhead was a sunny and very warm affair. Whilst the riders could choose to remain in the shade until they were called to the start, spare a thought for the time keeper and pusher off who had to suffer the solar onslaught both at the start and finish. There was a fair amount of traffic on the A4 today, but that didn't stop Michelle Ayres setting a season’s best time of 26.46.

Club Event, Saturday 2 June 2018

Very humid and dull conditions prevailed as the riders ground their way along the A4 to the turn at Twyford. They were, however, rewarded by a good, strong tailwind from there to the finish. Michelle Ayres was the only solo Road Club rider finishing with 28.25. The other two Road Club riders were Ken Powell and Gary Wells who rode a two up - as this was Gary's first time trial - recording 30.34. The full result is as follows:

Club Event, Saturday 8 April 2018

Luckily, after the recent spate of rainy weather, the morning dawned dry but cool and overcast for the first of the year's club events. Slight gusts and significant headwind from the turn hampered the riders. However, the biggest obstacles were temporary traffic lights on red in both directions creating long tails of traffic for the riders to negotiate. Consequently, times were significantly affected. A cool, sunny, but decidedly autumnal morning faced the riders in the last of the season's Club time trials at Maidenhead Thicket. James Roberson was the fastest club rider with 26.16 followed by Michelle Ayres in 27.56 and Bob Hewett with 29.13. Dave Keeley and Steve Kish rode a two up recording a time of 26.04.

Club Event, Saturday 5 August 2017

The weather relented a little for the latest club event at Maidenhead Thicket, producing a benign morning with no rain and little wind. Our fastest rider was James Roberson with 26.29 although he confessed to be only ‘riding round’ as he was due to ride a ‘50’ the next day. Michelle Ayres finished with 26.46. Joy Payne decided to save her energy for the same next day ‘50’ which unfortunately for her and James was abandoned soon after the start due to a traffic accident on the course.

Again a very strong wind blew for our latest club event but this time from the opposite direction, although several riders thought that it didn’t aid them very much on the return leg. John Payne was our fastest rider in 26.59. Joy (Payne) didn’t ride, saving herself for the Maidenhead ‘25’ the following morning, a decision which proved the correct one as she improved her personal best at the distance by over five minutes to 1.05.05.
